Sam’s contract is coming to the end. He has spent three years on the Moon, observing the automatic station recovering rare gas. Three years, that he spent in a complete isolation if not to consider a speaking robot GERTI, can change everybody… Two weeks before his return to the Earth, Sam meets his follower who is an exact copy of him. May it be a hallucination? Or is it the fruit of his sick imagination? Perhaps, something has happened on the Earth and all video messages from home are lie?

Moon Movie Review

To tell the truth, I have been waiting for this movie since the moment of first publication about it. It is not a surprise as Sam Rockwell plays the main role in this lunar sci-fi, Clint Mansell is a composer and it is shot by the son of a “great and horrible” David Bowie. Sounds intriguing, doesn’t it?

I was lucky to watch it within the framework of a Hollywood premiere. The movie fully satisfies my expectations and even exceedes them. A tense but touching and kind atmosphere is felt from the first minutes and this feeling lasts till the very end. It can be noticed in every thing, starting from smiles on a wall and finishing with a wonderful robot Gerti who is perhaps the kindest robot in a whole cinema history. He expresses his mood with the help of smiles and can even pat on a shoulder in difficult moments. During one and a half hour we see on the screen an unique balance between crucial nervousness, humor and even suddenness. One famous edition wrote that the whole plot is shown in a trailer. Don’t be afraid as it isn’t true. Even the end leaves no ground to be unsatisifed.

Sam Rockwell proved once againg that he is very talented. In fact it was his benefit performance as it was the movie of one actor. And certainly the voice of Kevin Spacey influenced on Gerty’s perception greatly.

I compared this movie with “A Space Odyssey” several times but in a few seconds I realized that in spite of some similar details such comparison was unacceptable. “Moon” is an unique movie and it’s quite different from the majority of movies of the same genre, you can find these movies and download.

It is impossible not to pay attention to the sound track. I think that sound tracks of Klint Mansell are almost modern classic ones (remember his work in the movie “The Fountain”). But what he composed to “Moon” is wonderful. Perhaps, the movie was peceived in another way if the composer was another man.

An excellent movie. I don’t afraid to call it the best among the movies of the same genre. We can congratulate Danken Jones on a succesfull debut!
