This movie tells us of the notorious bank robber John Dillinger. His bold robberies turned him into a real hero for all the oppressed and a main target for the best FBI agent Melvin Purvis and FBI Director John Edgar Hoover. Nobody could stop the Dillinger’s gang. No jail could capture him… Charisma and desperate escapes made John famous among people who blamed banks in the Depression.

While the adventures of a daring gang (Baby Face Nelson and Elvin Karpis also joined the gang) inspired the mad citizens, Hoover decided to take advantage of the case and turn the Bureau of Investigation into the main law enforcement body of the USA – the  FBI. He made Dillinger the most dangerous enemy of the whole American nation and called Purvis a saviour and a pride of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Public Enemies Movie Review

A movie ‘public Enemies’ is certainly one of the most long-expected movies of the year. The reason is a role of Johnny Depp who has missed a whole 2008 cinema year. However, there are a lot of stars in the movie even without Depp. For example a film director himself…. Compete a picture  with a new John Connor ( I mean Christian Bale) and a young star Channing Tatum. It is surprising that a film director managed to gather such a company for 80 million dollars only! He must be an expert of convincing.

Big things are seen from a long distance. This saying woks perfectly for this movie.. It became one of the most long-awaited movies from the very first days when it was mentioned.  I should mention, that movie makers managed to shoot a very correct… ‘manly’ movie ( sounds weird but anyway)

This movie tells us of an American gangster John Dillinger who is  well-known for all Americans. Now he will become familiar for Russians as well. It is a story of an extraordinary man who decided to ‘screw’ a  state system. Unfortunately such stories don’t usually have a happy end. Dillinger is a man who loves his freedom, his friends, his girls. He could be almost called a self-sacrificing altruist, although he was not an altruist at all. But people of that time thought that he was, that’s why he received a name of a new Robin the Hood.. Johnny Depp  who warmed to this role perfectly just shines on a big screen. It is well-known that Johnny Depp is able to play any role  and in this movie he has proved this assumption one more time. He is smiling, shooting, speaking…. and all these with his famous charisma!

Scenery, setting, atmosphere are just wonderful. And it seems once again that the movie-makers have purposefully understated a budget of the movie. Although only movie-makers know the real truth, and God, as they say. The style of Public Enemies reminds of gangster movies of the last century like ‘Once upon a time in America’ or ‘Godfather’ trilogy, but it’s not so dragged-out. Plot is very dynamic, but the movie is rather long anyway.

Public Enemies is the main cinema event of this summer, don’t miss it. Maybe you won’t like it but at least you will certainly get familiar with the main event in the cinema. Having watched this movie you feel that you absorbed the history itself and its wisdom. Although this feeling is probably deceptive.
