The plot takes place in the future in 2057 year, when people will almost stop communicating with each other and entrust this function to the robots-surrogates. They are stronger, younger, more attractive then their owners and even they can be the opposite sex. But there is one terrorist who starts killing the surrogates. The policeman Tom Greer has to find out why criminals want to kill surrogates and their owners.

The workdays of surrogates.
Mostow hasn’t shot an utopia. It is an epic drama. The drama intrigues us by the open end. It’s interesting to know whether Surrogates 2 and Surrogates 3 will be or not. The plot line allows the absence of Bruce Willis in next movies. The story about surrogates isn’t tied to one person as “Terminator” was.
Mostow shouldn’t doubt whether the audience understand him. The Russians will understand it exactly. We had the rich history of transformations people into manikins. We know their workdays. However they didn’t look so glossy but it’s the only distinction between the movie and reality. Do you remember people in fur caps with ear flaps, quilted jackets, and gauntlets, who are marching somewhere under escort against gloomy grey landscape? There were also surrogates, not technical ones but social. The other way but the idea is the same.
Yes, it’s a social drama. The movie doesn’t tries to stop the progress but show that there are also other ways. It’s great that I’ve downloaded and watched movie the “Surrogates”, because you start forgetting about some simple things.
I’ve remembered one story from my life. In order to enter into one institution I had to leave all electronic devices and cell phones. I always carry many devices – player, digital camera, laptop, smartphone. And we had to take it off in special room. I had to put off even my watches. We put it in two big packets and went to the building. And when I went out that room I felt naked! If course I had a clothes but I really felt naked. It was a strange feeling.
The scientists often say that many people are attached to their cell phones. They carried out an experiment – they took away their cell phones and found out that people’s spirit became worse and some of them even fell into depression. It’s horrible! So Mostow’s shot the “Surrogates”. Somebody won’t notice anything but other person will think – “when will we start depositing our bodies? In what situations?”
